Randall Alberts, head of the Project Management Office at Georgia State University, gave a presentation called "Project Prioritization Made Easy."

Their organization has 185 IT employees and 3 project managers including Randall. These three support project management in IT but do not manage all projects.

John Ellis, Heather Mugg, and Jesse Foley from Emory led this pre-conference workshop. Around 8-12 people attended.

Higher education has particular issues with identity management, because one person can play so many roles, e.g. an undergraduate student who then goes to med school, becomes a resident.

Jim Love and I will be presenting at EDUCAUSE's Southeast Regional Conference 2009 tomorrow. Our presentation is entitled "Sustainable Governance: Transforming from an Oral to a Written Culture." Our presentation materials will be available via EDUCAUSE's site, and they are also below.

We have probably all heard the Lord Kelvin quote, “If you cannot measure it, you cannot improve it”. So why not place more emphasis on measuring performance of our IT infrastructure? ITIL gives us key performance indicators, KPIs, as guidance, but I wonder what percentage of university IT departments track where they perform relative to defined indicators. My guess is that nearly all departments do some, but few departments are doing this on a large scale department wide. But why not? Especially since this feedback would foster improvement efforts.

• Technology Evaluation Form, posted under Service Portfolio Management. We use this form to evaluate a technology request to determine high-level risks.
• Service Acceptance Criteria, posted under Change Management. We use this template as a checklist to go through before any significant service modification goes live.
