CIO magazine has a downloadable white paper called "Understanding ITIL Service Portfolio Management" available on their site. The article, written by BMC, talks about the importance of tying services to the business, and provides a brief summary of a couple of Service Strategy and Service Design concepts. Then the article starts talking about Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). I've seen several other articles that also talk about ITIL and SOA in the same breath. The two aren't really related! Understanding and applying ITIL concepts is a process and a governance decision. Understanding and applying SOA is a technological decision. I think the article could be useful in introducing ITIL concepts to people, but it's important to know where the information ends and the sales pitch begins.
